I am nobody but myself...

I got a message from my eldest son the other day and it made me think about things that are going on in my life. Lately or rather for most of my life I have always tried to please other people and be who they wanted me to be instead of who I wanted to be. Even now I feel inclined to be a people pleaser but sometimes you just need to pause and put things back into perspective and take care of yourself and be who you are regardless of the thoughts of others around you telling you what to do, how to think, how to act, and what they feel is best for you. The only person that really knows those things best is YOU...or in my case ME! I know what is best for me..I know how I want to act, talk, become, etc. and during this pondering moment I found some quotes that I liked and wanted to share.

  • It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Self-Reliance," 1841
  • Be neither a conformist or a rebel, for they are really the same thing. Find your own path, and stay on it.
  • If you don't control your mind, someone else will. ~John Allston
  • If you keep doing things like you've always done them, what you'll get is what you've already got. ~Author Unknown
  • Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss
  • The reward for conformity was that everyone liked you except yourself. ~Rita Mae Brown, Venus Envy
  • To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. ~e.e. cummings, 1955
  • Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~Judy Garland
  • It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. ~e.e. cummings
  • All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself. ~Ralph Ellison, "Battle Royal"

Soooo....I just need to remember that I am nobody but myself! and that isn't a bad thing...I know I have weaknesses and need to improve in a few areas but right now....I like who I am!

Brrrr It's cold outside!

This morning it started out pretty nice and looked like it was going to be a happy sunny day but man was I fooled...it has turned into a cold, grey, rainy day! What happened to my happy sunny day? :-(
I have been told that here in the San Diego area they have what is called "Gloomy June" or something like that...I think the gloomy weather started early! sigh...
I suppose it is okay though...I do like changes in the weather because it adds spice to life..right? If every day were the same it would get kinda boring... ;-)
and even though it is grey, cloudy, dismal, dreary, gloomy, and I feel like Eyeore off Winnie the Pooh, I can have a HAPPY SUNNY DAY on the inside!

BELIEVE!

BELIEVE in your dreams and they may come true, BELIEVE in yourself and they will come true!
Sometimes it is difficult to believe in yourself...I know...because often I doubt my abilities, talents, and knowledge. I was watching Oprah yesterday and she had an author on there who wrote "Quantaum Wellness". I am going to buy that book, read it, and put into practrice what was written. It's about how to push through our boundaries of our own self centered fears.
I believe it's time for me to work on my fears and overcome them so that my true inner beauty will be able to shine through and then I will be able to truely believe in myself and make my dreams a reality!

I am wilting today...

I went for my walk/run this morning around 9am and you know I be sweating...it was already hot! and kinda felt humid! WHAT? I moved away from the humidity...so I thought! Even after my shower I was feeling that humidity and still feeling sticky wet...ewwww..had to get my little fan, plug it in, and have it directly on me while getting ready this morning. Now I feel like I am wilting..or melting...I just wanna go to the beach and enjoy the cool ocean breeze and feel the refreshing water on my body!
I am really seriously thinking of taking my bathingsuit to work today and jumping in that pool! Maybe I will swim laps AFTER work to cool off a bit before going home...anyone want to join me??? ;-)

Oh happy day...

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us. Helen Keller
As I strive to be happier in my life I have found that my motivation and happiness comes from within; from enjoying the simplest delights...flowers in the Spring, bunnies on the lawn, birds in the little birdbath in the garden, smelling honeysuckles while taking a walk, feeling the cool ocean water on my feet, laying out in the sun and feeling the refreshing breeze, weeding the yard with parents, going shopping with my sister or friends, hearing my children laugh, seeing them smile and the list goes on and on. The most beautiful things are felt in my heart...and that is what I draw from to be happy

The heat is on in CALI...

We are to hit around 95-100 today...sigh! I love the sunshine and hot weather but only if I can be at the beach all day long. I can sit for hours and hours in the sun at the beach and soak it all in. But when at work I wish I could just forward the phones and lounge by the pool or better yet on a floaty while on the water IN the pool. Now that would be a great way to work! At the resort I work at there is a pool and sometimes I am the only one in the office so technically I could forward the phones to my cell phone and hang out by the pool for a couple of hours at least...hmmm....it is rather tempting! Maybe I will bring my swimsuit to work and wellllll...ya never know! ;-)

The Dentist...

I went to the Dentist today and had THREE of my teeth worked on...Going to the dentist is something I put off until I absolutely have to go. I never liked getting my teeth drilled, filled, pulled, tugged, etc. I don't mind having them cleaned and someday I will get them whitened, brightened and perfect but when you're told that you need a root canal, and then crowns on three other teeth and then wisdom teeth out...well...that is reason enough to not like seeing the dentist for awhile. I guess I am just being a big baby right now because my teeth still hurt from this mornings visit! When it's all over and done with I will be a happy dentist abiding citizen. ;-)

Children are the anchors that hold a mother to life...

I can't believe how time flies..it seems like just yesterday that all my children were young and I was at home with them playing, singing, watching TV, going to the Lake, helping with homework, baking cookies, cleaning, doing laundry, and wondering what my life would be like when my kids were older.

Now I know...I love all my children and have loved watching them grow and mature and have families of thier own. I am thankful to be a mother of such fine and wonderful children. They are my angels!

I was excited for Susanna, Conrad and Daniel to come to CALI for Mother's Day. We had a marvelous time together. I took them to my work at Castle Creek Inn and showed them around the resort, introduced them to my boss Ellie Walton, and we went on a hike up in the hills around the resort. Then we went shopping with my mother and had a nice BBQ later in the evening. Sunday, Mother's Day we went to church and listened to beautiful talks about Mother's and we were given roses to take home and had pastries, fruit and other delicious treats. For dinner my mother made a Pot Roast, with potatoes, carrots and Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. That was my favorite meal growing up as a child that we would eat on Sundays. She would slow cook it in a pressure cooker back then..this time she used a Crockpot. It was still succulent and very yummy just like I remember.
